The RX-V995 is a 5-channel receiver providing finest performance and processing available for music and video sound. Discrete power transistors rather than IC chips are used in the amplifier section to provide the cleanest sound possible. The amp delivers 100 watts each to the five channels. The new Dolby Digital and DTS systems are fully discrete providing six channels of sound. Five are full-frequency channels, and the sixth is a low frequency effects channel. Dolby Digital is available on DVD and laserdisc. DTS is available on DVD, LD, and CD. The RX-V995 is prepared for the future. It has back-panel inputs to accommodate a third 5.1-channel system, should one be developed, or a decoder for the new DVD Audio standard. Yamaha has designed and employed a new IC chip - YSS-918 - that handles Dolby Digital and DTS decoding, as well as Yamaha's Digital Sound Field Processing, Cinema DSP, and Tri-Field Processing. Yamaha's exclusive Digital Sound Field Processing for music recreates the acoustic personalities of actual concert halls and other venues. On-Screen Display With Speaker Test Mode allows you to easily establish, change, and adjust settings from across the room. The on-screen display gives you a visual readout of the receiver's settings on your TV or monitor screen. The on-screen speaker test mode makes it easier to balance speaker output from your listening position. Second zone rear panel audio and video outputs, and separate power control make the receiver ideal for custom installation applications. The advanced remote control with the RX-V995 has learning capability and can be programmed for up to 13 macros, so it can perform a sequence of functions at the touch of a single button. And the remote control can adjust the subwoofer volume.The RX-V995 is a versatile receiver incorporating three sets of audio-only inputs and 5 pairs of A/V inputs. Four sources have digital input capability, and two of these have a choice of either optical or coaxial digital inputs. All A/V sources have an S-video input. Yamaha's famed low impedance drive circuitry is included in this receiver so that it can handle virtually all loads and a wide variety of speakers. For further speaker matching, the amplifier can be set for either 4 or 8-ohm speakers. Record Out Selector allows you to listen to one source and record another. Up to 40 preset AM and FM stations can be grouped in five groups eight stations. These groupings make it easy for family members to easily access their favorite stations or to have musical genres, such as all the jazz stations, grouped together. Yamaha's heavy-duty binding post speaker terminals accept banana plugs, spade connectors, and a variety of speaker wire, including heavy gauge cable.
