As with all Meridian products, our goal in developing the Director is to help you enjoy the music you love with the very highest quality playback, without compromise, using innovative engineering and technology.

Director supports sample rates up to 24-bit, 192kHz and incorporates Meridian Resolution Enhancement technologies, including Meridian Upsampling and the Apodising filter, improving audio quality. The proprietary Apodising filter improves the sound of some digital recordings by fixing recording faults. Standard sample rate signals (16–24 bit, 44.1/48kHz) are automatically upsampled to 24- bit 88.2/96kHz. Separate precision reference oscillators are included for sample rates based on 44.1 kHz and on 48 kHz, minimising jitter. The DAC itself offers extremely low modulation noise and distortion, and incorporates the highest quality components throughout, including audiophile grade capacitors, resistors and gold-plated phono sockets. Some features of the design are based directly on circuitry and components used in Meridian’s Reference 800 Series.

Designed for plug-and-play operation with Macintosh computers, a driver is required for Windows (XP or later); this is the same driver used for the Explorer DAC. In USB mode, Director uses asynchronous transfer for the best sound quality.

Meridian's newest DAC, called the "Director," expands upon the theme of affordability and performance pioneered by their "Explorer" DAC. Priced at $699, the Director offers increased functionality and performance in a similar, albeit larger, form-factor.
With two inputs, one for USB and the other for either RCA SPDIF or Toslink sources, the Director can be the digital decoding center either a computer or disc-based audio system. It supports up to 192/24 resolution on either input, and has a single pair of RCA analog outputs.
For controls the Director has a single push-button that lets users choose the input source. On either side of the button you'll find small white LEDs. On the left are two source indicators, while the right has three sample-rate indicators.
The Director is housed in an oval-shaped case that looks like an Explorer that went on a weight-gain regimen. On one end you'll find the inputs and single pair of RCA outputs, while on the other is the source selector and output indicator lights.

Users have two options to power the Director. It can draw power directly via the USB connection when tethered to a computer, or you can use the supplied AC power source. A third power option would be to use the ifi iUSB Power device between a computer and the Director.
The Director is a fully compliant USB type 2 device that was immediately recognized by my Mac computer. For Windows machines Meridian supplies driver software, the same driver Meridian created for their Explorer DAC.
Under the hood Meridian has endowed the Director with Meridian's proprietary upsampling and apodizing algorithms, separate crystal oscillators for 44.1 and 48 kHz sample-rates, a direct-coupled fixed-level output, and the same quality of capacitors and resistors that Meridian uses in their flagship 800 series of components.
On the Director's four-layer circuit board you'll find an XMOS L2 processor for USB interface and DSP functions coupled to a Crystal Semiconductor CS 4353 DAC chip.
Installing the Director in my computer audio system was as simple as 1-2. First I connected it via a Light Harmonics Lightspeed USB cable, then went to the Audio Midi Setup control panel, where I designated the Explorer as my audio output device and it was up and running, almost. The final step was to choose the USB input via the Director's front panel. Until I selected "USB" my Mac didn't "recognize" the Director as a USB device, so it didn't show up in the Audio Midi Set-up panel. Using the Director with my Sonos was even easier - all I had to do was connect the Sonos' digital output to the Director, connect the Director's power supply and RCA output and I was done.

While I haven't spent enough time with the Director to go into great detail about it's ultimate sonic capabilities, I can confidently report that it can produce a beautiful-sounding results. Hooked up directly to a Stax 404 earspeakers driven by a Stax SRM 006-ts amplifier via a one meter pair of Black Cat Neo-Morpheus cable the Director was absolutely dead quiet even when I turned up the Stax amp to 11. Switching between different sample-rates was near instantaneous with no clicks, burps, or other extraneous sounds.
I tried MP3, AIFF, and WAV files with sample-rates from 320 BPS, through 44.1/16, 88.2/24, 96/24, and 172.4/24 and 192/24 with no issues or amusical sounds during switchovers. On source material ranging from modern pop and rock through classical I was continually impressed by the natural and musical sound emanating from the Director DAC. Especially on my own live recordings, which I know quite well, the Director produced an expansive soundstage with excellent imaging and explosive dynamics.
Available through Meridian's extensive international retailer and distributor network, the Director offers another outstanding option in the already competitive under $700 portable DAC marketplace.

ตัวนี้ออกแบบเอาไว้เพื่อใช้งานเป้น DAC เพียวๆเลยครับ ดังนั้นถ้าจะใช้งานกับแอมป์หูฟัง ก้ต่องต่อด้วยสาย RCA OUT ไปเข้ากับเฮ้ดโฟนแอมป์อีกทีครับ

โทนเสียงออกไปทางสุภาพนุ่มนวล ให้เสียงร้องที่หนานุ่ม และมีอิมเมจที่เด่นชัดมากๆ ให้เสียงที่กลมกล่อม เเหลมไม่จัด และจับคู่กับอุปกรณ์อื่นได้ง่ายครับ

HERUS: Asynchronous USB Audio 2.0, 24bit 352.8Ks/S, DXD and DSD64/128, 2.4VRMS Headphone DAC

HERUS is our smallest form-factor, audiophile quality USB to Headphone DAC. It uses the USB Audio 2.0 Asynchronous protocol and supports DSD64 and DSD128 as well as high data rate PCM at 24bits up to 352.8Ks/S. It is a USB powered device that achieves more than 100dB of SNR, (typically 108dB) and is capable of driving 2.4V RMS, (ie 6.8V pk-to-pk) into headphones from 600 Ohms to 32 Ohms. The distortion in all cases is better than 0.005% (85dB): the measured THD+N is typically 89dB for 32 Ohms and 90dB (about 0.003%) for 600 Ohms.

HERUS is designed to operate with MS Windows, MAC OS and Linux. You may download our Thesycon USB Audio 2.0 driver to enable USB Audio 2.0 on Windows. HERUS uses the ESS 9010-2M DAC, our custom code, and our own asynchronous algorithms that run in a generic Cypress USB interface chip.

We use Resonessence designed, advanced power line processing circuits that can reliably deliver more voltage range than the USB provided 5V, and we maintain the SNR of the power supply to a degree such that HERUS exhibits well over 100dB of SNR at the headphone output. HERUS also has a very low 0.2 Ohms output impedance that prevents external noise sources coupling into the output.

All Resonessence products feature upgradable firmware and hardware and despite its physically small size, HERUS also contains Resonessence upgradable hardware and firmware

I can't hear a hint of back-ground noise, totally silent on quiet sections, well apart from the vinyl rips where clicks and pops stand out a mile. No problems getting it working with DSD64 and DSD32 files. Listening with Earsonic SM64 (my favourite IEMs) and Shure SRH840.
Better than the iBasso DX50 for hirez FLAC files, DX50 is thin and tinny in comparison.
As good as the AK120 on DSF files, a little less bass but still well presented.

Spent a good chunk of yesterday listening with Herus (notice that I didn't say listening "to" Herus; that word choice is deliberate). Used it both in the main system (in place of a Lynx Hilo), and connected to iPad via CCK, in each case with HD 800. Listened to a combination of familiar reference tracks that I often use to evaluate gear, and recently purchased music that I'm pretty unfamiliar with.


Shockingly good.



Short version: Herus is a Concero plus a good amp in a package the size of a package of chewing gum.



I haven't looked at the measured FR, but subjectively it sounds basically flat from 41 Hz (the open fourth string on a bass) to the upper limit of my hearing.



Transients are crisp without being brittle. No glare or digititus to speak of.



Dead quiet.



Soundstage is rock solid and broad without creating that strange "outside your head" illusion. Example: on several tracks on the Dave Holland Qunitet album "Prime Directive," the drums are multi-miked and spread all the way across the soundstage. Every drum and cymbal can easily be located, and they stay where they are.



Really transparent to source. If a track was recorded in a big, reverberant space, you get all the air that the engineers intended. More traditional studio recordings sound like traditional studio recordings. It's maybe a little more forgiving of inferior recordings than the Concero. Whatever dynamic range is in the recording is the dynamic range you get.



Detail retrieval is excellent. The Carter Cello Concerto (Weilerstein/Statskapelle Berlin/Barenboim) is a bit chaotic, but the Herus untangles all the strands and lays them out clearly.



Instrumental timbres are dead on. Oboes sound like oboes, and clarinets sound like clarinets, and never the twain shall meet. You can absolutely tell the difference between a tenor sax and a bass clarinet, between a violin and a viola, and between a guitar and an octave mandolin.



Just. Wow.

มีคนเปรียบเทียบกับ AK100, RWAK100, AK120, microstreamer ดีกันคนละอย่างครับ AK120 อาจได้เปรียบเล็กน้อย แต่ต้องเทียบกับราคาด้วย AK120 got the most right, but HP out on the Herus is more powerful. Microstreamer loses to both.

My old RWAK100 (memory), the AK120, and the microstreamer have the quietest background.

Microstreamer is tilted a little warm. Herus is great but the AK120 had more detail to my ears. Recently sold the AK120, but had a couple of days side by side.

All comparisons were done with JH16fp edition with both the bass EQed down and no EQ

ตอนนี้เทรนด์การเล่น DAC แบบพกพากำลังมาแรงจริงๆครับ คาดว่าจะต้องมีหลายๆแบรนด์ลุยส่ง Product ออกมาแข่งขันกันครับ อย่าง

อย่างค่าย Chord จากอังกฤษเตรียมปล่อย HUGO Portable DAC ที่มีแบตเตอรี่ในตัว พร้อมแอม์หูฟังกำลัง 8W แถมสามารถเล่น DSD และต่อเล่นจาก iPhone และมือถือ Android ผ่านสาย USB หรือระบบ Bluetooth ก็ย่อมได้คร้าบบ

อีกเจ้าหนึ่งที่ราคาไม่แรงมากและนิยมพอควร แต่ตอนนี้ดูเหมือน Herus จะมีคอมเม้นท์มากกว่า

สำหรับ DSD DAC ตัวตั้งโต็ะคงรอตัวที่ได้ถึง 256 DSD ซึ่งมี eco, antelope ออกมาแล้วและน่าจะมีตัวอื่นออกมาแล้วด้วย ยังตามไม่หมดเลย

ผมแปลกใจตรงที่ DSD มีมาตั้งแต่ปี 1999 ทำไมเพิ่งได้มารับความนิยมตอนนี้ สงสัยทาง SONY จะปิดระบบมากไป ดีว่าไม่ล่มสลายเหมือน Memory Stick ที่พ่ายแพ้จน Sony ต้องทำช่องใส SD CARD

พวก Meridian Explorer และ Director สามารถต่อกับ Iphone Ipad ได้มั้ยครับ

ต่อไม่ได้ครับเพราะกำลังไฟไม่พอครับ
