Keeping in mind that I have owned several high-end amplifiers such as Krell KSA-150, Audion Silver Night 300B, NAD Master M3, Marantz PM-11S1 and so on, the Rotel RA-06 SE would seem to be a small amplifier for my choice. The Rotel RA-06 SE might not look so scary on the outside, but under the hood it hides a muscle machine. Specified by Rotel to 70W at 8ohm but measured to 100W at 8ohm and 160W at 4ohm. (See attached audiograph powercube.) The overall build quality is excellent with a large 350W toroid transformer, 20.000uF capacitors and 4 pairs of output transistors which are unusual for a ?70-watt? integrated in this price range.
The sound characteristics are mostly natural and transparent but perhaps slightly happy on the bass. It is obvious that this amplifier is underspecified because it has an amazing drive and headroom, delivering enough power to suit any normal size speakers. I run the Rotel with a Pair of B&W DM685 (From the same company) which is a perfect match, but I am sure it can drive much larger speakers without any problem. My overall impression of the RA-06 SE is very good and I think you get a lot of amplifier for your money.
